A ten minute boat ride reaches a calm snorkeling lagoon with picnic huts and a walking loop.
No booking, first come. Take the 10am boat with a group. No alcohol on the island and they check coolers.

Six walkable blocks of bars, rooftops and restaurants, so nobody has to drive between stops.
Free live music at the waterfront on Thursday evenings most of the year.

Hands on exhibits, a small aquarium and outdoor dinosaurs, about two hours with young kids.

Manatees gather in the warm water outflow all winter, and it costs nothing to watch them.
Only worth it from mid-November to March, when the manatees are actually there.

The closest ocean beach to the house, with a real parking lot instead of street meters.
Restrooms, lifeguards, a playground and a cafe on the sand. Pavilions can be reserved for a group.

A pier, lifeguards, a big lot and restaurants on the sand make long days easy.
Rinse stations, chair and umbrella rental, and Benny's on the pier. Parking is enforced around the clock.

John D. MacArthur Beach State Park27 min drive
A mangrove boardwalk leads to an undeveloped beach, and a carful gets in for five dollars.
A free tram runs 10am to 4pm. Some restrooms are out for repairs, so check before a day out with toddlers. No dogs.
